Product Overview
OWS© Oil & Water Separator Additive speeds the breakout of oil from water in separator units. OWS© Oil & Water Separator Additive also retards foaming and odor and decreases sludge build-up for reduced maintenance of the unit.
Hydrostatic bonding of the oil/water mix in separator units retards oil breakout. OWS© Oil & Water Separator Additive reduces hydrostatic bonding and increases oil breakout. The resulting oil is drier and the water is cleaner.
OWS© Oil & Water Separator Additive is formulated to breakdown emulsions that clog separator units.
Emulsion formation in the separator reservoir is the major cause of maintenance problems that include foul odor and foaming. These emulsions provide a platform for the formation of biological growth, such as algae and mold that contribute to the foul smell of some units.
OWS© Oil & Water Separator Additive destroys this residual biological growth, thus eliminating the odor.
Separators treated with OWS© Oil & Water Separator Additive yield a cleaner discharge with lower DRO ppm. This fact occurs because the reduced hydrostatic bonding causes a reduction in foaming.
Foam in a separator will carry hydrocarbon molecules that "defeat" these plates or baffles in the separator unit and contaminate the clean water discharge reservoir.
How Your Separator Works
The most common approach to the design of oil water separators is to configure parallel corrugated plates that cause the oil droplets to increase in size, thereby speeding the gravity separation process.
The oil/water/sludge mixture enters the oil water separator. The heavier sludge and particulates fall out of the fluid and are captured in the sludge hopper. The oil and watermixture with lighter particulates travels up the inclined plates.
OWS© Oil & Water Separator Additive breaks down the hydrostatic bonds that retard separation of fluids in the tank. This action also eliminates most foaming in the unit. The inclined plates start to separate the mixture. Some oil rises to the top of the separator and the remainder of the particulates slide back down to the sludge hopper.
The remaining oil and water mixture then moves through the coalescing media packs where the majority of the smaller oil particles attach to the media and combine together to form larger oil particles. These larger oil particles become so buoyant that they release from the media and travel to the top of the separator.
As the oil volume in the separator reaches a certain level, the oil is drained to through piping to an oil storage tank. The clean water then continues to the clean water chamber where it goes through a final polishing pack and out to the sewer.
